Bailey’s Travels

On  strangely mild Christmas Eve, Bailey and I were on our way to San Antonio, to Grandmother’s house we go. Well, Bailey’s grandmother, my mom.

It started at 4am!! Yes, I know, that’s super early. Our flight from DCA was at 6 am and I wanted to make sure we had enough time since it was our first time traveling. Lindsey dropped us and on our adventure started. Funny thing was that the security gate still hadn’t opened so we had to wait a bit. But Bailey was cool as a cucumber.

Okay. She was really hating the carrier. But our first flight was from DCA to Atlanta. It being such an early flight was I was beat so I feel asleep fast. But little to my knowledge I had left a little opening in Bailey’s carrier because I hadn’t zipped it all the way closed and she got out!!! Thankfully I woke up just in time because she had just gotten up. I wrangled her up and stuffed my poor little girl in her carrier. Needless to say, she tried to scratch her way out but to no avail since I made sure I zipped up the carrier.

And then we made it to Atlanta!! Home of Chick-Fil-A and Diet Coke. I had a two-hour layover which worked out great because it was plenty of time to (1) take Bailey to the airport dog park, (2) come back to my gate and (3) get some food!! After what felt like hours of walking, I’m sure it was more like 10 minutes, Bailey and I made it the dig park.

The dog park was a great size and little Bailey got to walk around for a while.  Unfortunately for Bailey, I forgot her collar so she couldn’t walk in the terminal.  (I left it on her retractable leash that was left at home.) But she was able to sit in her carrier with her head out of the top which she really seemed to enjoy.

And off we go on our next flight from ALT to our final destination of SAT.  One of the stewardesses saw me board the plane with Bailey and immediately started talking to me.  She said that she didn’t have a problem if I took her out of her carrier during the flight.  I sat next to a young couple with their baby girl who loved animals so they didn’t mind either.  So into our 2 hour flight, I took Bailey out for a bit and she sat on my lap.  She really liked being out and enjoyed the view.

But sadly after a while of this, we began our decent and Bailey had to go back into her carrier.  She wasn’t too happy about it.  A short 40 minutes later we were in San Antonio and waiting for her Uncle Emilio to pick us up from the airport.

Bailey had a great time in San Antonio playing with Ita, her grandma, and her cousin Nyk.  She got to run around, without a leash and bark without being shhhh’ed.  She also had a few adventures escaping from our yard and played in the back of Nyk’s power wheels truck.  She also gained a bit of weight but who doesn’t over the holidays.  I know I did.

It was sad to leave but I think Bailey was ready for it after 9 whole days of constant play.  She, once again, tried to escape on the plane but she didn’t.  And she did try to scratch her way out too.  I was also smart and bought her a new collar so she could walk around in the terminal.

Once we got home,  she jumped on the couch and fell asleep for an eternity in dog years.  I’m sure it was more like a week in dog years.  It’s been 3 days since we’ve been back and after our trip to San Antonio and to the office, she is ready for a few days of quiet relaxation on the couch.  Oh to be a dog, what a life!!

A Working Doggy

During times of recess and it’s slow in the office, I like to try to bring Bailey to work with me.  Mainly because no one in my office cares too much but mostly so Bailey isn’t alone all day at home.  She loves it here.  At least, I think she does.  While in the office, Bailey runs around, begs for food from anyone eating anything, and greets people as they enter.

If I bring her in the morning, she is tuckered out by mid afternoon and takes a nap under my desk where I have a doggy bed and blanket.  If I bring her in the afternoon, say after lunch, she’ll be all sorts of active running around and wanting to play, like today.  I also forgot her toys today.  I’m a bad mother.

But usually she looks like this…

Doesn’t she look like a perfect little angel?  Just sleeping away and chasing squirrels.  Please ignore the extra love handles and tummy rolls she has.  She is sensitive about that area of her body, just like any woman would.

Bringing Bailey does make the day go by faster.  And given that fact that “It’s Friday, Friday, Friday” I wouldn’t mind this day going by fast.

Dogs Really Do Know!!

So you know how some people say that animals, especially pets have a 6th sense about things.  Such things can be earthquakes, babies, or in my case, abandonment.  (Okay so abandonment might be too strong of a word…)

Anyways, I have a dog.  A chihuahua to be exact.  I’ve had her for two years now.  Whenever I am home, I have her by my side.  She even sleeps with me in my bed.  Yes, for some non-pet owners, that is a wee bit much but I don’t care.  Well, in a month I’m leaving San Antonio to move to DC and I really think she know this.  Ever since I found out I’ll be moving, she’s been even more affectionate, needy, lovey, etc…  I just don’t what it is.

Example: I got home and was on my bed watching TV.  Bailey, my dog, was somewhere else in the house.  She comes into my room and proceeds to whine and cry so I will pick her up and put her on the bed.  I usually do but I was feeling pretty lazy so I decided to ignore her.  Normally when I do this she’ll go sit on the couch with my mom or into her dog house.  Mind you, even though I have a chihuahua, she isn’t fussy or yappy or anything else like that.  So for her to beg and whine is very out of her character.

Yes, I know she is an animal but they have feelings too.  She’s been my constant comfort and love for the last two years. Something that hasn’t changed despite the fact that everything else has.  Needless to say, if I can’t find an apartment that takes pets, I’ll be very sad, as will she…
